Exfoliants explained

Exfoliants work by helping dead skin cells slough off, revealing healthy fresh skin below. The skin on your feet is especially prone to thickening and calluses, partly due to the pressure of standing. You can exfoliate your feet with a foot brush, a pumice stone or with scrubs containing slightly abrasive ingredients like walnut shells or polymer microbeads. Exfoliating products for the feet may also contain hydroxy acids. Some hydroxy acids used in exfoliants include lactic acid, salicylic acid and glycolic acid, which comes from sugar cane. Hydroxy acids not only help turn over skin cells, but can help generate collagen, a fundamental building block of skin and connective tissue. SUGAR ME SWEET NSC makes all Natural exfoliants for the feet.

3 ways Sugar is good for your skin!

"Sugar may get a bad rap in sweets, but it's an excellent ingredient in skincare. Here are three beauty benefits this sweet stuff has to offer:

First, sugar is a natural humectant, meaning it draws moisture from the environment into the skin. So when you apply products with sugar or sugar derivatives, they'll actually help hydrate your skin and keep moisture within.

Secondly, sugar is a natural source of glycolic acid, an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that penetrates the skin and breaks down the "glue" that bonds skin cells, encouraging cell turnover and generating fresher, younger-looking skin. Glycolic acid is typically used to treat sun-damaged and aging skin. Because it can be irritating to certain skin types, over-the-counter products typically contain less than a 10 percent concentration of glycolic acid in their formulas. Spas and dermatologists may offer more advanced glycolic treatments with concentrations above 10 percent, but those should be supervised by a professional. Because glycolic acid -- and all AHAs -- exfoliate the top layer of skin, it's important to always follow with a sunscreen if going out during daylight hours to avoid damaging newly tender skin.

Finally, sugar's small particles make an excellent topical exfoliant, and are used in a number of body scrubs to exfoliate dead surface skin cells and reveal the glowing, healthy-looking skin underneath. Sugar scrubs also have a few benefits over salt scrubs. For one, small sugar granules are generally gentler than salt, which can cause microscopic tears in the skin; two, because of sugar's natural humectants properties, these scrubs are more hydrating than salt scrubs, which can strip skin of natural oils. Coconut Oil Can Protect Hair Against Damage, Moisturize Skin and Function as Sunscreen
Cracked Coconut With Peels
Coconut oil can serve various purposes that have nothing to do with eating it.
Many people are using it for cosmetic purposes and to improve the health and appearance of their skin and hair.
Studies on individuals with dry skin show that coconut oil can improve the moisture and lipid content of the skin (22).
Coconut oil can also be very protective against hair damage and one study shows effectiveness as sunscreen, blocking about 20% of the sun’s ultraviolet rays (23, 24)
Another application is using it like mouthwash in a process called oil pulling, which can kill some of the harmful bacteria in the mouth, improve dental health and reduce bad breath (25, 26, 27).
Bottom Line: Coconut oil can be applied topically as well, studies showing it to be effective as a skin moisturizer and protecting against hair damage. It can also be used as a mild form of sunscreen and as mouthwash.

Sugar Scrubs has been recommended for Rosacea by Top Beverly Hills Surgeon, David Alessi, MD

http://www.realself.com/question/there-cure-rosacea

Adult acne (or Rosacea) can be difficult to treat.

What makes treatment difficult is that some regimens are good for one patient and not the next.

Twice-a-day washing with a good cleanser followed by a non-drying toner, a sugar scrub three times a week, with moisturizer every day seems to work well for most, especially if creams have some gentle peeling agents.

Can using Sugar scrubs effectively help me tan? YES

Sugar Scrubs can help prepare the skin before tanning.  They help the skin absorb the tan better as well as even out blotches as the tan fades.  It is always good to exfoliate before tanning because it gives your skin a fresh new layer, like a blank canvas.

*Be careful when using Citrus Essential Oils (such as our EZ PZ Lemon Scrub) it should not be used with 24hrs of Sun exposure to avoid Photo toxicity.

Question: Parabens - What Are Parabens?

Before you read the answer to that question I want to let you know that
Sugar Me Sweet Sugar Scrubs contain NO PARABENS, we use no Artificial preservatives, just natural Vitamin E.

Question: Parabens
What are parabens? should I avoid them and how do I know if parabens are in my skin care products?
Answer: Parabens, it's hard to avoid the topic of much debate these days. Well, let's start with the first part of your question: What are parabens?
Parabens are preservatives found in many skin and body care products. Preservatives are what enable your products to have a long shelf life. You can tell if your product has parabens by looking at the ingredient list. You may see one or more of the following: Methylparaben, proplyparaben, isopropylparaben, isobutylparaben, butylparaben, sodium butylparaben. As you see, each word ends with "paraben", which makes it easy to pick out.
Your second question, should you avoid them, is a bit of a personal choice. I can tell you why people are choosing to avoid them and then you can make your decision.
Parabens have been found to mimic estrogen. This, to some is cause to believe that they are a possible trigger for cancer, especially breast cancer. The FDA has come to the conclusion that at this moment, parabens are a safe ingredient in skin care products and that there is no cause of concern. They will continue to do research and alert the public if this changes.
Many smaller skin care companies proudly state the fact that they are paraben-free. While this is a great option for them because of the smaller quantity of products they make and sell, most larger skin care companies use parabens to enable you to get your supply of product no matter where you shop.

DIY Natural skin tip of the week : Jojoba and Rose Water Natural Facial Cleanser

Would you like to make your own natural facial cleanser?
Or are you:
  • Wondering what to use for skin care that does not put harmful chemicals into your skin?
  • Dealing with inflamed skin from rosacea or other conditions?
  • Looking for a low cost alternative to pricey organic skin care options?
  • Hoping to simplify your skin care routine?
If any of the above apply to you, then I have a simple and wholesome answer for you: Jojoba Oil Face Cleanser.

I found a regimen like this when I was dealing with a resurgence of rosacea. I had it so bad that I was ashamed to go out of the house. I tried numerous creams and facial products, but some of them were just purely awful (one had a green tint to it to hide the redness of the rosacea – Yuk!) and others simply did not work.
Finally, I read that rosacea can be caused by low stomach acid so I tried some Betaine Hydrochloric Acid (HCl) in supplement form and found that my rosacea disappeared almost immediately! Clearly my digestive system was involved in this problem. Later, however, I found that long term use of HCl is not necessarily a good idea and that working on the root issues with one’s digestion is a much better way to go.

The basis of this routine is jojoba oil for cleansing. It seems counter-intuitive, but there are two reasons why jojoba oil is great for cleansing:

Why Use Jojoba for Cleansing

1. Oil attracts other oils so cleansing your face with oil really does make sense. You will be amazed at what shows up on your cotton ball at the end of the day.
2. Jojoba oil is more similar to sebum (the oil in human skin) than is other vegetable oils. Therefore, it is a natural for using in facial and body are routines.
Here is my version of a very simple and soothing Jojoba and Rose Water Cleansing Routine:

Sometime, Anytime, Sugar Me Sweet

Today's introduction is our Vanilla & Jojoba Oil Brown Sugar Sugar Scrub. Vanilla has a wonderful aroma that is Sweet and Warm. It's benefits are Comforting , relaxing and nurturing. Who couldn't use a little bit of that in their day.
_________________________________________________________________________
Using brown sugar will gently exfoliate your skin and is generally considered to be superior to salt scrubs or scrubs made from white sugar. This is because brown sugar is considered a gentler scrub than either salt or white sugar and the aromatherapy effects are generally superior.

One of the little know properties of brown sugar is that is anti-bacterial. Used in World War II to treat wounds, sugar has anti-bacterial properties that make it an ideal beauty product. Not only does it exfoliate, but it won't cause infection should you roll over a slightly nicked heel or a small cut.

Our Sugar Scrubs contain Vitamin E Oil .

Using Vitamin E in skin care is thought to have multiple benefits to your skin.   Vitamin E is chuck-full of antioxidants that are extremely beneficial to your skin. It fights off free radicals, which cause aging signs.  Some examples of free radicals are smoke, pollutants and excess sun  .Vitamin E can also help prevent wrinkles and reduce age spots.
One extra benefit of adding vitamin E to sugar scrubs is that it will help prolong the life of your scrub. It's not a preservative, so it won't make them last as long as a store-bought scrub with preservative, but it will help it last longer than using the oils alone.
